I used Photoshop as a digital "filter", because the sun was setting too fast to use my real one out in the field. In order to capture that brilliant orange of the sunset, but not have the seals go totally to black, I took two shots, one exposed for the sky, the other for the seals, and used Photoshop to put them together.
